Blog Design Option 2

Pilgrim Auto Sales Blog and Logo

Logo design shows that the reason we have America is because of the Pilgrims.

Experiment with rotating floating Cumulus Images brought in through an RSS feed so they are always up-to-date.

Auto sales employees can update if they choose to.

Blog Design Option 1

Pilgrim Pre-owned Auto Sales

Logo and site design with Cumulus Tags that spin and entice users to select the vehicle they are interested in.

Auto sales employees could update the site if needed.

Design Application for Mobile Device

Internship Mobile Design at MIT

Created concept and screen designs for a grocery shopping application based on barcode scanning items and finding recipes based on these healthy ingredients.

Concept was taken a step further and Stop & Shop grocery stores implemented a similar process called "Shopping Buddy."

One requirement of this project was that the touch screen buttons had to be easy enough for men with large fingers to use. I wrote text to be short and usable and fit within limited button space.

IBM Change Toolkit Website

Start-up of IBM e-Business:Boston

Website helping corporate executives move from brick-and-mortar to the Web.

See the slide show on the right for various screens that I created.

Newsletter Writing, Editing, Events, Public Relations

Cohasset Elder Affairs Senior Center

Newsletters, photos, planned events weekly. Tried to get seniors interested in spending more time at the senior center by making it a lively, fun place.

Taught and observed seniors using computers and saw usability problems firsthand.

Quark Xpress Production

Andre Cordella, a famous Boston Designer had me as an intern.

I created print-ready files for medical annual reports and learned a lot.

Home Renters Insurance Design

Progressive Home Insurance for Renters

Because the audience of renters was determined to be young, the design used sliders, mouse-over effects and only four options for choosing insurance. I wrote the text or edited existing text, translating difficult concepts to easy language.

Used Camtasia Studio to film users voice, facial expressions and mouse movements.

T-Shirt Photoshop Collage Illustration

IBM Change Toolkit T-Shirt

I was hired to design web and print materials for the start-up of IBM e-business:Boston.

Through illustration with existing art, I combined images to show the elements going into a funnel and coming out with "change."

The T-shirt coordinates with the colorful site.

Print Collateral for Nagano Olympics

John Hancock Sales Conference in Japan: Olympics 1998

I designed many pieces that coordinated using the U.S. Olympic Style Guide.
The sales manager was so impressed with this piece that he asked that all other materials be designed similarly.

Used varnishes, vellum paper, die-cutting (personal letter to each salesman attached at the corners). Gold engraving.

Website Design

SmartPak Horse and Dog Vitamins

This company packs vitamins for each horse they serve in daily packs so that anyone can feed the horse or dog, preparing it for competition.

I showed ideas here such as showing the pack, little girl, horse, blue ribbon and navigation to the products customers can buy. I wrote the text.

Logo, Public Relations, Print Design

Hallowed Herbs for Medicinal Purposes

I organized clients various materials, thoughts and ideas into a cohesive presentation and printed handouts.

I wrote an article for the Boston Globe and Comcast Events and arranged hosting of the event at the Cohasset Senior Center. Because of the age of the group, they were familiar with many of the medicinal herbs.

Fidelity Style Guide

I was a "Style Guide Reviewer" during the change to a new design where accessibility was a high priority.
We started with a few pages designed by an outside agency, then I helped designers build on the design and create standards. A complete style guide was built which made coding easier and design consistent.

Flash Animation With Sound

DECPARTS Obsolete DEC Digital Equipment Computer Parts and Repairs

"Some Machines Defy Obsolescence"
When users hear the sound of the P-51 Mustang plane they are impressed by a quality classic plane.

Customers realize by the personal design that they are speaking to the actual shop, not a middleman.

Posters & Ads: Design translated to widely different sizes

Jeet Kune Do

Three widely-different sizes of the same information. The poster was very large and the ads were quite small. This shows ability to expand or condense information while keeping style and impact.
I did not handle the printing but am experienced with designing and preparing full-color and 2-color with various papers.

WoodKelly, English garden ornaments, fountains and pergolas
Dynamic site which I designed and brought content in from vendor sites.
The site allowed user to choose slideshow view and then get more information about the item.

The site has a blog where the owner can use his cellphone camera and voice to publish content while at garden show auctions in England.

First sale was a thatched roof playhouse sold the the Smithsonian Institute.

Home Insurance Online Application

Homesite Home Insurance (Progressive branding)
Home owners could purchase home insurance online. The e-business manager hired me to improve usability of the site and increase sales.

The purchase process was where a lot of user dropped off. I created personas and found users who fit these profiles to test. I reseached and analyzed competitive sites and presented best practices of each. With this information, I redesigned the process.

Then with Camtasia Studio, I recorded voice, facial expressions and mouse movements of each user. Surveys, phone sales and informal testing was done as the project progressed.

The resulting interface was navigable, appealing and understandable to even a user age 70 who had never used a computer before. Sales increased with each progressive improvement to the site with other factors considered.
